Orpheum Lofts Take High Road in Downtown Phoenix

You’ll get a taste of old and new Phoenix at Orpheum Lofts in downtown Phoenix.
The 90-unit project is housed in an 11-story, 1931 Art Deco building, with a lobby filled with Art Deco plaster moldings and original lighting. When finished, the units will have exposed ductwork, concrete ceilings and brick outer walls. At the same time, they’ll also have high-speed Internet, appliances and satellite TV.
“It’s a piece of history,” salesman Randy Caffee said. “It’s all about lifestyle and location. That’s what we’re selling.”
The proximity to downtown events attracts buyers, he said. So do the building’s amenities: 24-hour doorman, security and valet; a club room with a big-screen TV and kitchen; fitness center, pool and spa; computer room/business center; and extra storage.
Other features are 10,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor and a courtyard, with water features, misting system and lush landscaping, on the second floor.
The units have one or two bedrooms, and higher views cost more, Caffee said. Some buyers have purchased adjacent units to combine into one larger space, he said.
There is one model:
Plan E
Features: 866 square feet, one bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room.
Convenience quotient: The master bathroom has a tub. The laundry room is part of the master bathroom. There is space for a hamper in the bathroom. The dining area has space for a hutch. The kitchen has a breakfast bar. The standard kitchen differs slightly from the model’s kitchen - the martini bar is an option and there is a closet against the wall instead.
What to think about: the openness of the floor plan.
The rooms are defined, yet open to each other.
- The high breakfast bar acts as a separation between the kitchen and dining room.
- The master bedroom, which is off the dining room, doesn’t have a door. But it doesn’t need one. Set at the back of the unit, it feels and looks private. A door would make the plan feel smaller.
Also look at the standard features shown in the model:
- The master bedroom’s ceiling fan, which has a streamlined, artsy look.
- The Art Deco-style tile floor in the master bathroom.
- The “loftlike” features, including exposed concrete ceiling, ductwork and pillars.
- The units come with refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves.
